In the cartoon they were made on Earth. In the comics, they were from Cybertron whose altmodes were changed to dinosaurs so they could fight Shockwave on prehistoric Earth. Besides all the different continuities take place in parallel universes. There have even been crossovers in some TF comics.

There are different dimensions in the Transformers universe with different story lines. like shattered glass is not in the G1 universe but the one parallel to it, and somtimes they intersect and characters from one universe are thrown into another. But all the transfomer universes are real and run parallel to each other accept for the rare occasion of them intersecting.
